Job description

Position: Full-Time Clinical Faculty at SHSU-COM

Serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. The University seeks qualified candidates to join as full-time Clinical Faculty, reporting to the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine.

The role focuses on improving the physician workforce in primary care and other shortage areas in Texas, with an integrated curriculum emphasizing basic science, clinical learning, and osteopathic principles.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Developing community outreach opportunities for medical students, such as health fairs, clinics, fun runs, vaccination events, and food drives. Assist in organizing these events and provide clinical supervision as needed.
  2. Leading efforts to establish interprofessional education collaborations with other SHSU colleges in partnership with the Curricular Administrative Team.
  3. Assisting in the development of clinical content for systems courses and clerkships, participating in scholarship and research, delivering quality patient care, and fostering interdisciplinary learning.
  4. Teaching in various formats, including systems courses, physical exam, case-based sessions, clerkships, procedural skills, OSCEs, and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
  5. Providing patient care at the SHSU faculty practice and exploring opportunities for external clinical practice or part-time contracts, especially for clinicians not practicing full-time medicine.
