Job description

This is an academic position, based in Springfield (Decatur outreach), responsible for teaching duties within the Division of Neurosurgery, will have an interest in research and active clinical practice in Neurosurgery.

I. Administration: 5%
  1. Provide administrative support for the Division of Neurosurgery and develop vascular/endovascular Neurosurgical programs and related budgets pertaining to the Division.
  2. Provide administrative support for the Division of Neurosurgery and develop/contribute to other Adult Neurosurgical programs to include: Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine Neurosurgical programs and related budgets pertaining to the Division.
  3. Assist recruitment for the Department of Surgery and other appropriate areas of the Medical School.
II. Teaching: 25%
  1. Assist the Chair in assuring a balanced and integrated educational program in the Neurosciences including undergraduate medical education, surgical residency programs, continued medical education, and multidisciplinary surgical program.
  2. Assist in developing educational programs to meet relevant Neurosurgical needs in central and southern Illinois.
  3. Assist in developing and implementing undergraduate curricula in Neurosurgery and the Neurosciences where appropriate.
  4. Assist in educating residents in neurosurgical patient care.
  5. Serve as a mentor for Neurosurgical research for graduate and undergraduate Students.
  6. Providing a role model in Neurosurgery as a teacher.
III. Research: 10%
  1. Actively engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Division.
  2. Develop programs of research and scholarly activities and keeping with the goals of the Division.
  3. Produce published research that promotes the visibility and achievement of the Division.
  4. Engage in clinical trials and/or basic science research that further the understanding and treatment of Neurosurgical disease.
  5. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support research.
IV. Service: 60%
  1. Practice Neurosurgery in an exemplary manner, properly balanced with other academic activities, and clinical, and administrative responsibilities.
  2. Develop and maintain a clinical Neurosurgical practice appropriate to community needs.
  3. Provide a role model in Neurosurgery as a practitioner for faculty, house staff and residents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  3. Successful completion of a Neurosurgical Residency.
  4. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or eligible for such licensure.
  5. Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Neurosurgery.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Successful completion of a Neurosurgical Vascular/Endovascular Fellowship.
