Job description

Assistant / Associate Professor of Medicine - Department of Medicine at CUMC, Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases

The Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time transplant hepatologist for a clinical track position. The successful candidate will work in the Center for Liver Disease & Transplantation (CLDT), part of the Abdominal Organ Transplant Division within the Department of Surgery. Candidates should be Board-eligible or certified in Gastroenterology/Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology. Liver transplant experience is preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities include:


  1. Providing comprehensive care for patients with hepatobiliary disorders, including pre- and post-transplant management.
  2. On-call coverage for the Liver service.
  3. Participating in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students.
  4. Engaging in outreach activities.
  5. Participating in clinical and/or basic science research.
  6. Ensuring compliance with quality care programs of the University and the Departments of Medicine and Surgery.
  7. Proficiency in liver biopsies and standard endoscopic procedures is required.

Clinical interests should include alcohol-related liver diseases and end-stage liver disease. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Minimum qualifications:


  1. MD degree or equivalent.
  2. Board-certified or eligible in Gastroenterology/Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology.
  3. Eligibility for licensure in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
  4. Successful completion of ACGME-approved fellowships in transplant hepatology and gastroenterology.
  5. Meeting UNOS qualifications as a transplant physician.
  6. Proficiency in liver biopsies and standard endoscopic procedures.
