Position Overview





Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is seeking an assistant/associate professor whose teaching and scholarly research agenda is focused on Health Communication. The primary purpose of this role is to provide student centered teaching of undergraduate courses. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, engage in program assessment accreditation-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strong externally-funded research program in their field of expertise; (ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in health communication courses to undergraduate courses; (iv) support undergraduate research in health communication; and (vi provide service to the Department Communication Sciences and Disorders, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations.








A minimum of a PhD in Communication Studies (emphasis Health Communication) or a closely related field, with a significant research track record.
Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise, and have pedagogical skills to teach in areas relevant to health communication.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology and Ph.D in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs are being developed; Doctor of Nurse practice (DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has two areas of emphasis: (i) Speech Language Pathology and Audiology and (ii) Health Communication Studies. The department is dedicated to serving students, the local and professional communities. Students are engaged in clinical practice, internships, research, and service to the community. The faculty members are diverse in their education and research, and emphasis is placed on collaboration among faculty within the department, the college and university.

* Prior teaching experience in an undergraduate program.
* Research interests align with the Center of Excellence for Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research
* Skills with Blackboard LMS, Banner INB, and Microsoft Office Support Software preferred
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting and enhancing inclusiveness, collaboration and diversity in alignment with the University's commitment to maintaining and enhancing a diverse environment.
* A graduate degree and/or certificate in a health-related discipline.
