Job summary

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM), Wright State University, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in human genetics or genomics. Qualifications

  • Five (5) years’ experience as an Assistant Professor with an exemplary scholarly portfolio, successful mentoring, and evidence of extramural funding.

Responsibilities

  • 40% – Teaching and Curriculum Leadership: coordinate and deliver instruction in human genetics across foundational phases of the medical curriculum.
  • 40% – Research and Scholarly Activity: establish or maintain an active, externally funded research program in molecular genetics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, or related fields.
  • 10% – Educational and Student Mentorship: participate in educational initiatives and mentor students in research.
  • 10% – Institutional and Departmental Service: participate in committees and governance; contribute to admissions and curriculum development.

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Boonshoft School of Medicine ( BSOM ), Wright State University, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in human genetics or genomics. This position supports both the educational mission of the BSOM Wright Curriculum and the development of a research program in molecular and human genetics.

The successful candidate will serve as a key educator and curricular leader responsible for the integration and delivery of human genetics content within the BSOM Wright Curriculum, a fully integrated and lecture-free medical curriculum. The faculty member will collaborate with faculty across the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Medical Education, as well as clinical departments, to coordinate genetics instruction across the foundational and clinical phases of the medical curriculum.

The successful candidate is also expected to establish or maintain an active extramurally funded research program in areas broadly related to human genomics, molecular genetics, pharmacogenomics, or related fields. Opportunities exist for collaboration within the BSOM research community and with clinical partners in the Premier Health/ WSU network.

The faculty member will contribute to innovative medical education through the development of instructional materials, assessment tools, and scholarly approaches to teaching and curriculum implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.

2. Evidence of scholarly productivity appropriate to career stage (e.g., peer-reviewed publications).

3. Excellent oral and written communication as well as interpersonal skills.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.

2. Evidence of scholarly productivity appropriate to career stage (e.g., peer-reviewed publications).

3. Excellent oral and written communication as well as interpersonal skills.

4. Five (5) years’ experience as an Assistant Professor with an exemplary scholarly portfolio, successful mentoring, and evidence of extramural funding consistent with institutional promotion criteria.

Preferred Qualifications

1. At least two years of postdoctoral research experience with demonstrated research productivity.

2. Demonstrated research expertise in human genetics, genomics, molecular genetics, or related areas.

3. Evidence of or potential for obtaining extramural research funding (e.g., NIH or equivalent agencies).

4. Experience teaching in medical, graduate, or biomedical undergraduate education.

5. Experience with curriculum design, integrated medical education, or innovative teaching methods.

6. Experience teaching human genetics or genomics in a medical or biomedical curriculum.

7. Experience developing or using NBME -style assessment questions or similar competency-based assessments.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

40% – Teaching and Curriculum Leadership

· Coordinate and deliver instruction in human genetics across the foundational phases of the medical curriculum

· Design instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments aligned with integrated medical education

· Lead and collaborate with faculty across departments in the development and delivery of the BSOM Wright Curriculum

40% – Research and Scholarly Activity

· Establish or maintain an active, externally funded research program in molecular genetics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, or related fields

· Publish peer-reviewed research and contribute to the scholarly mission of the department and medical school

· Mentor graduate, medical, and undergraduate students in research

10% – Educational and Student Mentorship

· Participate in educational initiatives involving undergraduate, graduate, and medical students

· Mentor students in laboratory research or scholarly activities

10% – Institutional and Departmental Service

· Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives


· Contribute to faculty governance, admissions, curriculum development, and other service activities
