NMRFAM has a 40 year history of being at the forefront of biological NMR research in the US. NMRFAM is dedicated to making cutting-edge NMR instruments and methods available to all scientists; to developing new NMR instrumentation, methods and data analysis; and to making NMR accessible to biological science researchers without significant NMR expertise. This mission, namely to make the technology, data analysis, and training available to UW-Madison faculty, staff and students, and researchers from the state of Wisconsin and across the United States, strives to embody the Wisconsin Idea in a format appropriate for this highly advanced technology.

NMRFAM has been very successful in obtaining large NIH and NSF grants for both user program support and technology development. Faculty associated with NMRFAM are expected to contribute to development of new technology, user outreach, and our training mission. Significant investments by the Biochemistry Department, CALS, and our recent NSF award for the 1.1 GHz NMR have greatly increased the solid-state NMR capabilities of NMRFAM.
