Job summary

The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery. Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree and residency in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery.
  • Board certification or eligibility through the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) or equivalent.
  • Eligible for veterinary licensure in Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical activities of the Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service.
  • Provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for dental and oral surgical diseases in companion animals and exotic species when appropriate.
  • Mentor DVM students, interns, and house officers; collaborate with specialists across disciplines.
  • Engage in clinical, translational, and collaborative research; contribute to scholarly activities.

Position Overview

The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invitesapplications for a faculty position in Veterinary Dentistry andOral Surgery. This full-time, annually renewable, contract(non-tenure track) faculty appointment is available immediately andrepresents an exciting opportunity to join a growing andcollaborative specialty service within one of the nation's leadingacademic veterinary medical centers.

We are seeking a colleague who is passionate about clinicalexcellence, teaching, collaboration, and advancing the field ofveterinary dentistry and oral surgery. This position is beingrecruited as part of a strategic investment in the continued growthof the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service and the futuredevelopment of advanced training opportunities within theprogram.

Responsibilities

60%- Clinical

  • Participate in the clinical activities of the VeterinaryDentistry and Oral Surgery Service.
  • Provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of dental and oral surgical diseases in companion animals and, whenappropriate, zoological and exotic species.
  • Contribute to clinical instruction and mentorship of DVMstudents, interns, and house officers.
  • Collaborate with specialists across multiple disciplines toprovide exceptional patient care.

10%- Research

  • Engage in clinical, translational, and collaborative researchprograms.
  • Contribute to additional scholarly activities.

20%- Didactic Teaching

  • Contribute to the development of didactic coursework and integration into all four years of curriculum. It is expected that didactic teaching focuses on outcomes with an emphasis on active learning activities to enableour students to develop competence in clinical skills, communication, collaboration, clinical reasoning and problemsolving. A student-centered philosophy of education isrequired.

10% Service/Outreach

  • Service/Outreach responsibilities mayinclude personal development, outreach to external stakeholders andservice to the CVM and other veterinary-related professionalorganizations. Participation in departmental and university servicewill be appropriate at each stage of your career progression, as isfostering a diverse, inclusive and communicative academicenvironment in the department and university.
  • Expectations of the service component of your position includeproviding expert advice to referring veterinarians, attendingdepartmental and collegiate faculty meetings, and serving ondepartmental, collegiate, and university committees.

Location and Work Environment

Work will be completed on theSt. Paul Campus at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. In-person work is required for the clinical component of theposition at the Veterinary Medical Center, largely duringtraditional Monday – Friday daytime hours. Didactic teaching isalso done in person, though other aspects of the role may warrantflexibility for hybrid work.

Qualifications

Required:

Candidates must possess a DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degreeand have completed, or be completing, residency training inVeterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery. Applicants must be boardcertified or board eligible through the American Veterinary DentalCollege (AVDC) (or equivalent) and be eligible for veterinarylicensure in the State of Minnesota.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinicalpractice, teaching, communication, and teamwork, and will becommitted to fostering a positive and collaborative academicenvironment.

About the Department

The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinarymedicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized careof companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinicalresearch.

Teaching

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for asignificant portion of the clinical training program for third- andfourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internshipand residency programs. Faculty members also participate in theveterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciencesgraduate programs.

Research

Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basicresearch, as well as specialized programs such as the Animal CancerCare and Research program, Minnesota Urolith Center, and SurgicalResearch Laboratory. Research efforts are supported by the ClinicalInvestigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.

Service and Outreach

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborativeclinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center usingcutting-edge equipment and offers consultations and continuingeducation programs for practicing veterinarians in thecommunity.

Assist Prof - $115,000 - $180,000 annuallydepending on education/qualifications/experience; Assoc Prof -$135,000 - $195,000 annually depending oneducation/qualifications/experience ; Full Prof - $150,000 -$220,000 annually depending oneducation/qualifications/experience
