Qualifications

• Must have MD or DO or MD/PhD.
• CA medical license or equivalent.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery.
• California Fluoroscopy License.
• Experience in spine surgery and research is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform degenerative to higher-level complex spine surgeries.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
• Develop and implement evidence-based care pathways and clinical practice guidelines.
• Actively participate in the American Spine Registry.
• Collect and analyze performance data on surgical outcomes.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence in its faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Spine Surgeons to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Perform degenerative to higher-level complex spine surgeries, including reconstructions, traumatic spine care, and minimally invasive procedures
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and radiologists, to provide comprehensive care to patients with spine disorders
• Develop and implement evidence-based care pathways and clinical practice guidelines for spine surgery patients
• Actively participate in the currently established American Spine Registry, a national quality improvement registry for spine care
• Collect and analyze performance measurement data on surgical site infection rates, new neurological deficits, unplanned return visits to the operating room, and pre-operative and post-operative patient-reported outcomes
• Actively participate in educational and research activities, including teaching and mentoring residents and fellows, and contributing to the advancement of spine surgery through research and publication
• Actively participate in research activities, including clinical trials and basic science research, to advance the field of spine surgery.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.
