McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), clinical track faculty position in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
We are seeking a team-oriented Clinical Pathologist to join our group. Our affiliated hospital, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, is expanding its services, offering diverse medical conditions and opportunities for career growth for candidates skilled in building relationships across units and clinical teams.
This role involves two main components: blood banking/apheresis and hemotherapy.
Blood Banking is part of the transfusion medicine service, providing blood banking and apheresis coverage at Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center. The services support a broad range of medical and surgical clinical services, including a Level I trauma center, the Heart & Vascular Institute, transplant services, and the UT Physicians Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. The successful candidate is expected to participate in trainee education at various levels, as well as engage in clinical research and laboratory improvement projects to promote academic excellence.
Hemotherapy involves an innovative clinical consultative service that acts as a bridge between clinical and laboratory medicine. It is part of a multidisciplinary care team operating 24/7, serving as interventional blood banking and coagulation consultants at the bedside. The primary goal is to reduce bleeding risks in critically ill inpatients with cardiovascular disease, including those with advanced cardiovascular devices, recent surgical interventions, or inherited and acquired bleeding disorders. Physicians in this role must be comfortable with direct patient care, including ordering and interpreting routine and specialized hematology and coagulation assays, as well as ordering blood products and hemostatic agents.
Qualified applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service. They should have the potential to excel in their field and share the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
