Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assistant/Associate/Full professor, appointment stream (outside of tenure track), full-time (12-month) faculty member in speech-language pathology in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.

CONTENT AREA: Applicants with an interest in clinical simulation and clinical education are preferred. Applicants with expertise in related areas are also encouraged to apply.

STARTING DATE: August 15, 2025

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide didactic and clinical instruction during the 12-month calendar year (Fall, Spring, Summer) to support the educational mission of our programs and according to the needs of the department. This may include involvement in any of our five programs: undergraduate (BA) degree in communication science, doctor of audiology (AuD), master of arts or master of science in speech-language pathology (MA/MS-SLP), and research doctorate in communication science and disorders (PhD).

2. Develop and lead foundational clinical simulation activities, including interdisciplinary activities, for our master's in speech-language pathology program students.

3. Develop and manage curriculum, course content, and clinical skill-building activities for students, including professional mentoring.

4. Participate in and further develop interprofessional teaching and clinical opportunities.

5. Provide clinical education as appropriate to the student's level through direct clinical instruction.

6. Contribute through service to the department, school, university, and profession.

QUALIFICATIONS: A graduate degree in communication science and disorders and/or related fields with demonstrated expertise in specified subject areas. A doctoral degree is preferred but not required. Obtain the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence and PA state license in Speech-Language Pathology. Demonstrated experience, commitment, and service to equity, justice, inclusion, and diversity in the field of communication science and disorders. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in speech-language pathology and a minimum of 2 years of experience with clinical and classroom instruction.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Communication Science and Disorders (CSD) is one of seven departments in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS). The department currently has 25 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) faculty, including 10 full professors, 6 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, and 2 research assistant professors. The faculty are engaged in local, state-wide, national, and international collaborations and have a formidable reputation for the areas of expertise to which they contribute through research, teaching, and professional service. CSD is the largest department in SHRS, enrolling over 264 students across 5-degree programs, including an undergraduate (BA) degree in communication science, doctor of audiology (AuD), master of arts or master of science in speech-language pathology (MA/MS-SLP), , and research doctorate in communication science and disorders (PhD). Speech-language pathology (ranked #5 by U.S. News and World Report) and Audiology (ranked #5 by U.S. News and World Report) are among the nation's top programs in the field.
