Job description

Posting Information

About the College of Veterinary Medicine: As one of the top veterinary schools in the country, the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is committed to being a leader in professional education, clinical service, and research. The college also has an essential role in improving the quality of life for the citizens of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The college's mission is to advance the veterinary profession and animal and human health through ongoing discovery and medical innovation; provide animals and their owners with extraordinary, compassionate medical care; and prepare the next generation of veterinarians and biomedical research scientists. The college is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education.

The NC State Veterinary Hospital sees an average of 35,000 cases annually. Clinical faculty include internationally recognized certified specialists in over 30 disciplines, supported by highly trained veterinary technicians and staff. There are approximately 400 students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional program and over 90 students enrolled in the multidisciplinary Comparative Biomedical Sciences graduate program. The college and teaching hospital are supported by more than 160 faculty members, 450 staff members, and over 100 house officers (interns and residents).

The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences (MBS) at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track or professional track position in Nutrition at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The Nutrition Service at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a crucial component of our research, teaching, and clinical missions. Therefore, we are open to recruiting multiple faculty.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide nutritional consults and clinical service as needed, contribute to teaching, contribute to house officer and graduate student training, and engage in research related to animal nutrition and its clinical implications. We expect this position to synergize with the continued growth of the emergency and critical care, small animal internal medicine, and/or gastroenterology groups.

The incumbent will oversee nutrition clinical case management, provide high-quality clinical and pre-clinical teaching, demonstrate research productivity through the procurement of external grant funding and the publication of peer-reviewed scientific papers, and participate in college and departmental committees.

Faculty in a professional clinical track position spend the majority of their time in the clinical service, with a small proportion of their time dedicated to research. By contrast, faculty in tenure/tenure-track positions are expected to develop and/or run an independent research program, with a focus in clinical, translational, and/or basic research in the nutrition sciences.

Many collaborative research opportunities exist within NC State University, including the Comparative Medicine Institute. The faculty member will have the opportunity to collaborate outside of NCSU, including with the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease, and other Triangle-wide collaborations with UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, Wake Forest University, and industry.

Rank will be awarded based on qualifications.
