Job Description

The Assistant/Associate Director, Alumni Class & School Engagement reports to the Senior Associate Director, Alumni Class & School Engagement and is responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of student, alumni and school-based engagement programming with the primary focus being on GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) class engagement, co-leading the GOLD Leadership Council and GOLD Reunion Committees. In partnership with the Senior Associate Director, the incumbent will be responsible for creating an annual GOLD alumni engagement strategy that involves all members of the Alumni Relations team and their respective alumni groups in an effort to increase GOLD alumni engagement through measurable goals each year. The GOLD and young alumni constituency is a major area of focus for the Soaring Higher campaign and, therefore, this position will be required to help enhance and increase engagement that leads to more meaningful, life-long relationships between our alumni and the University for generations to come.

Specific responsibilities include managing the 5th, 10th, and 15th Reunion Engagement Committees, managing the Student Alumni Association, co-leading the GOLD Leadership Council in partnership with the Annual Giving Programs team, and leading First-gen student & alumni programming. In addition, responsibilities include the recruitment, cultivation and training of student and alumni volunteers to work as representatives of the classes, groups and councils they belong to; working with class committees in planning and implementation of individual class activities, programs and events in different markets where a high concentration of GOLD/young alumni currently reside; acting as liaison between classes and university constituencies in the development of each class event; coordinating with the Advancement Communications & Marketing team on ways to best promote and reach these constituencies through tailored GOLD marketing. This person will work closely with Student Affairs and other appropriate departments to provide connections between students and Alumni Relations; will partner with the Annual Giving team to co-lead the GOLD Leadership Council as well as the Councils programming and fundraising goals; establishes policies and procedures for all volunteers to follow when planning annual events; develops operating plans and budgets for programming and events that will achieve objectives and are cost-effective; and establishes and adheres to event standards and timelines necessary to plan and deliver successful programs and events.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The salary range for this position is listed below, with the final salary based on various factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and full-time equivalent hiring ranges:

  • Assistant Director: $61,050 - $76,300; 1-3 years experience
  • Assistant Director: $67,350 - $84,200; 3-5 years related professional experience
  • Associate Director: $74,450 - $93,050; 5+ years related professional experience
Requirements

This position requires a Bachelors' degree and for the Assistant Director, a minimum of one to three years professional level alumni relations experience or a combination of alumni relations and directly related work experience, such as events planning or development; the Associate Director requires a minimum of three to five years' experience working in advancement either in or outside of higher education, alumni relations programs at the professional level, preferable in an institution of higher education engaged in a capital campaign. In addition, this position requires exceptional interpersonal, customer service, oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide the detailed planning, engagement strategy and budget management necessary to ensure that events and programs are cost-effective.Proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office, Excel, and internal database platforms is expected.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work exceptionally well with volunteers and know how to build and foster long-term relationships with key constituents and internal University Advancement partners through project based work and co-leading efforts. The incumbent will also need to be able to successfully work in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple deadlines. Some travel and significant evening and weekend work is required.
