Position Function

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University Animal Emergency and Referral Center (AERC) is seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor in Emergency Medicine. This position will be for Afterhours and Weekend shifts. This position is also cross posted on PARF 510214 with the intent to fill one position.

Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities will involve didactic and clinical training for veterinary professional students and veterinary medical technology students enrolled in the academic program. Service responsibilities will involve emergency room shifts, primary and secondary clinical case management, and consultation with private practitioners. The emergency clinician will be expected to take a leadership role in improving the quality of the AERC emergency service, enhancing the quality of patient care and teaching out veterinary student rotation. Participation in continuing education programs is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, be eligible for licensure in Mississippi.
  • Assistant Clinical Professor: Two (2) years of experience as a small animal veterinarian
  • Associate Clinical Professor: Four (4) years of experience as a small animal veterinarian
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching Experience and Small Animal Emergency/Critical Care experience or training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
