Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Asset Management Branch Chief (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the incumbent performs a wide variety of transportation related works involving the District 10 Asset Management Program. Assists in developing and maintaining the District Ten-Year SHOPP Plan. Coordinates with various district and HQ programs to initiate projects to be included into the District SHOPP Ten-Year Plan. Develops conceptual cost estimates and project initiation proposals (PIP). Represents the district Asset Management Branch as part of project development team to review project initiation reports, project reports, PS&E packages and provide guidance related to asset management.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located at 1976 E Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Stockton, San Joaquin County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. The incumbent will work at workstations within shared cubicles primarily in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Building temperatures may fluctuate due to heating and air conditioning problems. The incumbent may be required to travel in one-day trips as well as overnight trips and occasionally be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and terrain.

The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24 month to 33 months rotation assignment for all permanent, full-time Transportation Engineer (Civil) employees that have completed their probationary period hired by Caltrans Districts after June 22, 2018, or an earlier date as determined by the Districts. The Rotation Program provides opportunities to develop project delivery knowledge, skills, and abilities by rotating through diverse project delivery units. The Rotation Program includes mandatory core assignments in Design and Construction units, as well as a mandatory elective assignment. Each rotation typically lasts 6 to 12 months and may be located throughout the state. An incumbent may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function when there are temporary or peak staffing needs.
