Position Summary and Overview

The Churchill School & Center, aK-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a lower school (Grades K-6) art assistant teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
  • Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Work collaboratively with cooperating Head Teacher and other related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, projects & activities
  • Supervise students during transitions
  • Supervise students during lunch and recess periods
  • Support students by scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects
  • Assess student work and participation
  • Seek improved methods of teaching through professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have...

  • BFA, BA or BS Degree (Degree in Fine Art, Design, Art Education, Elementary Education, Special Education or related field preferred)
  • Experience working with, mentoring, supervising and/or building positive relationships with elementary school aged children
  • Ability to work comfortably and professionally with a team
  • Comfort working in a variety of media including drawing, painting and ceramics
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
  • Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
  • Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
  • Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor

Compensation

  • $46K-$60K commensurate with experience
