Qualifications

  • Accredited architecture degree required as first professional degree.
  • Bachelor of Science in architecture with 1 year full-time experience acceptable.
  • New York State Registration as Architect required.
  • Some four-year degree examples are not acceptable for education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update reports, surveys, schematic layouts, final plans, and construction documents for space planning.
  • Review space requests, analyze P&E forms, and assess space needs.
  • Modify space standards per occupancy and consult NYC Building Code and guidelines.
  • Meet with program heads to review needs and obtain sign-off on BSD plans.
  • Maintain floor plans and provide AutoCAD support; manage project files and CAD library.
  • Create templates and maintain the CAD library and system documentation.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

General Support Services/Bureau of Space and Design is recruiting for one (1) Assistant Architect who will:
  • Prepare and update reports, surveys, schematic layouts, final plans, construction documents, and the analyses of the spatial organization and efficient utilization of sites and structures to ensure the new designs meet the needs of the programs.
  • Review requests for additional space, analyze Personnel and Equipment (P&E) forms, survey existing and proposed spaces, estimate amount of space required to meet program needs, and make assessments of optimal use of the available space.
  • Review and modify space standards as per occupancy requirements for office space and/or other facilities, consult technical sources including NYC Building Code, DCAS Citywide Space Standards and Agency guidelines.
  • Meet with program heads to review specific program needs, present BSD proposed plans, incorporate comments, and obtain program sign-off.
  • Maintain floor plans in accordance with the Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plans for all HRA locations. Coordinate updates to the property Management Report by providing hard copies of floor plans for all HRA buildings to the Building Managers and computing program areas on each floor in AutoCAD. In addition, the selected candidate will provide AutoCAD support for BSD staff.
  • Create templates and user interface customization for BSD AutoCAD system; update and maintain the CAD library of standard drawing blocks and details for use by in-house staff and consultants; serve as on on-site System Administrator responsible for the AutoCAD system including plotter and blueprint inventories and support the maintenance/creation as needed of the project file folders on the office server including incoming, outgoing, and downloads of site photos.

Hours/Shift: 8AM to 4PM

ASSISTANT ARCHITECT - 21210

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
  • A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.

The following are examples of four-year degrees that are NOT acceptable to meet the education requirement: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology; Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture; Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts issued by the Architectural Department of a college; Bachelor of Science in Art and Design issued by the Architectural Department of a college.

Note

A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
