Job summary

32BJ Benefit Funds is seeking an Assistant Analyst in Retirement Services Operations to process pension administration transactions for retired members and determine eligibility in line with plan documents and the law.

Under supervision, you will perform data entry, analyze pension applications, handle banking transactions, and support Retirement Analysts and CARE Counselors on complex calculations. This role requires strong math, attention to detail, and proficiency with Word and Excel.

Qualifications

  • College graduate with accounting or math degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong mathematical skills required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate pension benefits for new retirees and estimated projected benefits.
  • Analyze and process pension applications for completeness and accuracy; draft follow-up correspondence as needed.
  • Perform banking transactions, including pension check stops/reissues and voids.
  • Work with third party vendors to collect data on deceased pensioners, update system accordingly with findings, and process bank reclaims for overpaid benefits.
  • Track pension overpayments on a plan-by-plan basis and enforce overpayment recoupment policies.
  • Reinstate suspended pensioner accounts after validating documentation as per plan rules.
  • Validate work history and prior service records to calculate pension service credits.
  • Perform data entry.
  • Complete standardized written member communications.
  • Assist Retirement Analysts and CARE Counselors as needed with administrative and analytical pension calculations.
  • Special projects as assigned by management.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Retirement Services Operations, the Assistant Analyst is responsible for processing pension administration transactions for retired members of various pension plans. Responsibilities also include determining pension eligibility and processing pension applications in compliance with Plan documents and the law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Calculate pension benefits for new retirees and estimated projected benefits for future retirees.
  2. Analyze and process pension applications for completeness and accuracy; draft follow-up correspondence as needed.
  3. Perform banking transactions, including but not limited to pension check stop/reissues and voids.
