As the Commercial Pricing Actuary, you will lead Orion 180’s commercial product expansion and rate development for a rapidly growing insurance company. This high-visibility role offers direct interaction with Orion180’s executive team and external partners, giving you the opportunity to shape the company’s future. You’ll drive continuous improvement in pricing and reserving processes while applying innovative approaches to traditional actuarial challenges.

The Assistant Actuary is responsible for the pricing, product development and reserving functions for the company. The position works collaboratively with the actuarial team and other cross‑functional business units to implement pricing and product enhancements designed to achieve growth and profitability goals in line with the company’s business model and enterprise objectives. This role also assists with quarterly reserves and financial reporting.

Ideally the selected candidate will work from our Headquarters in Melbourne, FL, but we will consider remote with the expectation of travel to our site once a month.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Develop rate level indications and develop predictive models to optimize pricing and segmentation of policies. Support company’s expansion into new non‑admitted products and new states.
  • Assist with quarterly rate adequacy reviews for all lines, integrating catastrophe models (e.g., windstorms, floods, wildfires) into the pricing structure.
  • Assist with quarterly forecasting, incorporating premium and loss projections and internal and external cat modeling.
  • Serve as a key business partner to portfolio managers and IT, providing technical support and verifying accurate implementation of pricing tools.
  • Work with product owners to proactively manage the rate review process, including the preparation, proposal, and implementation for all pricing changes.
  • Work closely with Enterprise Risk Management and Data Science on catastrophe modeling and interpretation, with a focus on integrating within all actuarial functions.
  • Participate in the design and development of next‑generation pricing tools and internal modeling, including AI‑based improvements to actuarial processes. Analyze external or internal claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual reserving process, including preparing reports and presentations for senior actuarial leadership.
  • Work closely with product owners and IT to provide requirements for pricing and product enhancements designed to produce efficient, accurate and compliant product presentation, quoting, and policy issuance.
  • Continuously improve our analytics and data‑driven decision‑making capabilities and operating efficiency and quality.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Education and Work Authorization
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in similar work. Completion of 3+ actuarial exams up to ACAS required for this position.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. Citizen and Green Card holder).
Experience
  • Experience: 3+ years of P&C actuarial experience necessary. Experience working closely with business units would be highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with next‑gen actuarial pricing and statistical tools and experience in implementation preferred.
  • Advanced data and statistical programming skills including SQL, R, SAS or Python, with strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a demonstrated ability of providing strategic recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU:
  • Dynamic Environment: On‑site role with a fast‑paced and collaborative team culture. Results‑driven office where your contributions make a real impact.
  • Compensation: Competitive base pay and performance bonuses.
  • Career Growth: Mentorship, growth tracks, and professional development.
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid holidays, PTO and more!

The office environment is fast‑paced and collaborative. An employee must be willing and able to work their regularly assigned work schedule onsite, and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company or departmental needs, project requirements, or customer demands.
