Job summary

The State of Michigan, Department of Health and Human Services, seeks an Eligibility Specialist to ensure applicants receive appropriate assistance and to assess and refer families as needed.

The role supports self-sufficiency by informing families about program expectations and guiding them toward available resources within Michigan. On-site work in Antrim County may be combined with hybrid options where allowed.

Qualifications

• Ensures applicants receive the type and level of assistance for which they are eligible.
• Assesses needs and provides information and referrals to help meet those needs.
• Explains MDHHS expectations and goals to families.
• Encourages and guides families toward self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provides program guidance to applicants and determines eligibility.
• Refers applicants to appropriate services and partner agencies as needed.
• Communicates program expectations and goals of the MDHHS.
• Works with families to promote independence and self-sufficiency.

The role of the Eligibility Specialist is to strengthen Michigan families by:

• Ensuring that each person/family that applies for public assistancereceivesthe type and level of assistance that they are eligible for
• Assessing the needs of each person/family and giving them appropriate information and making any referrals and/or contacts to persons/agencies to help them meet their needs.
• Providing all families with information about the expectations and goals of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
• Encouraging and guiding families in their efforts to become self supporting.

The physical location of this position is Antrim County. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
