Job summary

Entravision Las Vegas is seeking a News Assignments Desk Assistant to support efficient operation of the assignments desk, help in producing newscasts, and, when required, contribute to show production.

You will coordinate interviews and logistics for field crews, facilitate news gathering across broadcast, digital and web platforms, and participate in editorial meetings while maintaining strong news judgment and ethics.

• Facilitates the news gathering process and ensures comprehensive coverage of all news stories across all platforms, including but not limited to broadcast, digital, and web.
• Lead editorial meetings.
• Develops enterprise story ideas consistent with the news brand.
• Cultivates contacts important to news coverage in the market, including law enforcement.
• Monitors police and emergency scanners/ social media platforms and other electronic/printed sources for news and disseminates the information to appropriate newsroom personnel.
• Assists in the production of newscasts when required.

Competencies

• Manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment.
• Basic understanding and demonstration of solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander, and applicable FCC rules and regulations.
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels.
• Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology.
• Work well in a team environment.

Required Education And Experience

• Experience in the market and familiarity with the region’s audience and communities.
• Experience using online and social media resources as news researching tools.
• Experience with newsroom computer applications.
• College degree preferred

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a Full Time position. Must have a flexible schedule with ability to work any of a 24/7 shift and willingness to work long hours and on weekends and holidays with short notice.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Reports directly to News Director
