Job summary

United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) seeks an International Multimedia Journalist – IV (Team Lead) to direct daily news planning, assign reporters and multimedia staff, and coach team members. You will report on performance to management and ensure coverage aligns with editorial objectives.

You will coordinate coverage plans with editors, monitor breaking events, and guide sourcing and angles to deliver timely, accurate reporting. Strong ethics and newsroom collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

International Multimedia Journalist – IV (Team Lead)Serves as a team leader, assigning work and coaching team members and reporting to management on their performanceLead daily news planning and assignment activities, evaluating story opportunities and prioritizing coverage based on editorial objectives, audience interests, and available resources.Assign and coordinate reporters, photographers, and multimedia staff to ensure comprehensive, timely, and accurate coverage of news and feature stories.Monitor breaking news, emerging trends, and developing events, making real-time decisions on coverage priorities and resource allocation.Collaborate with editors, producers, and newsroom leadership to develop coverage plans, identify enterprise story opportunities, and manage daily editorial workflows.Review story pitches and reporting progress, providing guidance to journalists on sourcing, angles, and coverage strategies.Cultivate and maintain relationships with sources, public information officers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support newsgathering efforts.Ensure assigned coverage adheres to organizational standards for accuracy, fairness, ethics, and journalistic integrity.Oversee newsroom schedules, assignment budgets, and logistical arrangements to support efficient news operations.Coordinate coverage of major events, special projects, and multi-platform initiatives, ensuring resources are effectively deployed and deadlines are met.As assigned, develops or updates standard operating procedures for unitAs assigned, during programs, serves as line producer and manages the timing and order of stories included in broadcastsParticipates in the creation and development of regularly scheduled or special radio and/or TV programs and/or web and social media sections, as assignedAs assigned, edits and approves copy and content prepared or written by others for broadcast and/or publication for inclusion in his/her assigned storiesContributes finished products meeting standards to production elements of programs and content for broadcast and/or web and social media, including fine editing of taped material, as assignedContributes to teamwork, facilitating tasks of teammates, as neededMeets VOA standards for productivity, quality, and meeting deadlinesMakes suggestions about policy and workflow improvementsWorks independently or as a member of a teamFluency in target language (written, spoken) and deep knowledge of the target area, plus the ability to adapt stories into English as assigned, within the time assignedHas specialized knowledge including formal education in a field desired by VOA, regularly demonstrating that added ability through the performance of his/her dutiesOther related duties as assignedAbout the AgencyThe United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is an exciting, multi-media, multi-cultural, global media agency that carries out all United States civilian international broadcasting.
