Role Overview
  • This role is part of the Sustainability & Impact team (S&I) and reports to the COO, Head of Sustainability & Impact (Americas). It focuses on supporting the team’s approach to value creation, including managing the Sustainability Optimization Center of Excellence within the Value Accelerator (VA) and conducting research to identify sustainability levers for risk management and value creation throughout the investment lifecycle.
  • The VA is a platform partnering with portfolio companies to build enduring businesses and create value by leveraging Goldman Sachs' network and resources. It has six Centers of Excellence, including Sustainability Optimization, which is the focus of this role.
  • The Associate will collaborate with the S&I team, deal teams, the VA team, external vendors, and advisors to drive sustainability initiatives and develop new value creation tools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Identify value creation supports and develop sustainability content for portfolio companies, including prioritizing topics, creating technical content, and managing project workplans.
  • Build and manage the advisor network, onboard consultants, and create content with technical experts.
  • Enable portfolio companies to engage with the VA and each other through community management, content translation into self-service tools, event facilitation, website updates, and resource distribution strategies.
  • Measure the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives, collect feedback, document case studies, develop financial impact methodologies, and report progress to stakeholders.
  • Assist deal teams in integrating sustainability into value creation plans, tracking relevant KPIs, and creating technical content from investment perspectives.
  • Support strategy development and communication, including research, thought leadership, KPI tracking, leadership presentations, and client materials.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2-5 years of experience in banking, investing, management consulting, or developing sustainability strategies at a corporate level.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Analytical skills, including assessing financial ROI of sustainability improvements.
  • Professional maturity, familiarity with management tools, and understanding of how sustainable practices drive value.
  • Experience with ESG KPIs/metrics is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and awareness of business intelligence tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution; MBA is a plus.
Salary Range

The expected base salary for this position in New York is $100,000 to $160,000, with potential discretionary bonuses.
