Job description

The Asset Protection Specialist plays a critical role in minimizing loss and controlling shrink by enforcing company policies, monitoring store activity, and supporting safety initiatives. This position is responsible for deterring, detecting, and apprehending individuals involved in theft or other criminal activities, while fostering a safe and secure environment for customers, associates, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor checkout areas for signs of consumer fraud, employee dishonesty, and compliance with cash handling procedures.
  • Investigate front-end exception reports as directed by the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Observe customer behavior throughout the store to identify potential theft, safety concerns, and service issues.
  • Apprehend shoplifters in accordance with local laws and company policy.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and public agencies under the guidance of Loss Prevention and / or Corporate Counsel.
  • Audit receiving areas to detect vendor fraud and ensure adherence to receiving protocols.
  • Assist with loss prevention inspections and respond to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alarms (where applicable).
  • Maintain and monitor loss prevention equipment, including CCTV, EAS systems, intrusion alarms, and other security technologies.
  • Conduct store audits and inspections to ensure compliance with shrink control and security policies; document violations and report findings.
  • Support internal and vendor investigations as assigned.

Safety & Food Safety

  • Participate in the store's Safety Committee.
  • Report unsafe behaviors and conditions to store management and the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Take immediate action to address imminent safety hazards.
  • Identify and report food safety concerns, ensuring freshness and quality standards are upheld.

Communication & Training

  • Maintain open communication with store management on all loss prevention matters.
  • Train associates on loss prevention policies and procedures as directed.
  • Build trust and rapport with store teams to promote a culture of safety and integrity.

Additional Duties

  • Foster positive relationships with local law enforcement and court personnel.
  • Compile and submit routine statistical reports to the Division Loss Prevention Office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Loss Prevention Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age : 20 years
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
  • Must pass a criminal background check with no felony convictions or offenses related to theft, violence, or misconduct
  • Strong observational and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and interpret data
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Willingness to learn and apply company policies and procedures

Pay Transparency : The pay range is $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement."
