Position Summary

The Asset Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day coordination, utilization, availability, movement, and maintenance of the company’s waste equipment. Reporting to the Asset Manager, this position supports and mentors Asset Coordinators to ensure equipment is properly tracked, deployed, recovered, maintained, and returned to service in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Asset Lead serves as a key connection point between Asset Management, Operations, Maintenance, Sales, Transportation, and customers to maximize asset utilization, minimize equipment downtime, and ensure a high level of customer service.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
Asset Management
  • Collaborate with, support, and mentor Asset Coordinators.
  • Maintain accurate visibility of all rental assets, including containers, compactors, roll-offs, balers, and other waste equipment.
  • Monitor equipment availability, utilization, location, condition, and status.
  • Coordinate asset deployment, relocation, retrieval, inspection, and redeployment.
  • Identify underutilized, idle, damaged, or out-of-service equipment and develop plans to return assets to productive use.
  • Ensure equipment is properly entered and maintained in asset management and rental systems.
  • Assist with planning and equipment allocation based on customer demand and operational requirements.
  • Support asset lifecycle management, including repair, refurbishment, replacement, and retirement decisions.
Rental Operations
  • Ensure rental equipment is deployed and recovered according to customer commitments and operational schedules.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Transportation to resolve delivery, pickup, relocation, and installation issues.
  • Track equipment turnaround times and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary dwell time.
  • Ensure equipment is inspected and properly documented before being returned to rental-ready status.
  • Escalate equipment shortages, delays, damages, and service issues as appropriate.
  • Support Sales and Customer Service by providing accurate equipment availability and deployment information.
Maintenance & Equipment Readiness
  • Coordinate with Maintenance teams and vendors to ensure equipment is repaired and returned to service efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment awaiting repair, parts, inspection, refurbishment, or disposition.
  • Prioritize repairs based on customer demand, equipment value, and operational requirements.
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment condition and maintenance status.
Team Mentorship
  • Support and mentor Asset Coordinators to ensure consistent execution of processes and service levels.
  • Provide training on asset tracking, rental processes, systems, and company procedures.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
Reporting & Performance Management
  • Monitor key asset performance indicators, including:
  • Asset utilization, equipment availability, rental-ready percentage, and asset turnaround time.
  • Equipment downtime and repair cycle time.
  • Asset recovery rates and lost or unaccounted-for equipment.
  • Prepare routine asset reports for management.
  • Analyze asset data to identify trends, operational issues, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase utilization and reduce operating costs.
General Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ability to travel and/or work onsite up to 10%.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Experience & Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in asset management, fleet management, equipment rental, waste operations, logistics, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Prior experience leading, supervising, or coordinating a team preferred.
  • Strong understanding of equipment lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with asset management, fleet, rental, or ERP systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Waste industry, roll-off, compactor, container, or heavy-equipment experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and create reports on asset performance.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle inquiries and requests efficiently and professionally.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to process improvement in all aspects of asset management.
  • Discretion and trustworthiness in handling sensitive information and supporting high-level strategic initiatives.
