Job description

Cognascents is looking for an Asset Integrity Lead. We're looking for an integrity engineer who can own the technical direction, quality, and growth of our mechanical integrity and risk-based inspection (RBI) services. A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, is required; an active Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred. This role is based in Houston, TX.

Who You'll Work With

You will lead the asset integrity a team delivering mechanical integrity and RBI work to clients across refining, petrochemicals, LNG, midstream, and industrial facilities. You will set the inspection and RBI strategy, own the standards the team works to, and serve as the point of contact to the client's contact. Your work will adhere to, and help shape, best practice against applicable API, ASME, and related codes.

You will work directly with Cognascents' engineering leadership teams to grow the asset integrity practice — developing the team, maturing our methodology, and expanding the service line with existing and new clients.

At Cognascents, we believe in people with strong integrity and competence who are loyal to our customers, coworkers, families, and communities.

One thing we ask in your cover letter: tell us about a program, service line, or team you built or led.

About the Role

You will own the delivery and technical integrity of Cognascents' mechanical integrity and RBI engagements — running projects end to end and standing behind the work product as the technical authority. Your work directly shapes how our integrity engineers and specialists deliver asset integrity solutions to clients across the Gulf Coast and beyond. Day-to-day work spans project execution, inspection-campaign oversight, and RBI, within Cognascents' AI-accelerated, human-led consulting model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the final technical authority on mechanical integrity and RBI deliverables — the last signature under the firm's 100% senior-review standard
  • Set inspection and RBI strategy and methodology across client programs, connecting damage mechanisms to inspection and fitness-for-service planning
  • Own the technical correctness and quality standard for API 510, 570, 653, 580, 581, 579, and 571 work products
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the asset integrity team transferring judgment and scaling quality across the practice
  • Own utilization, margin, and resourcing across the asset integrity portfolio
  • Build and mature RBI programs and mechanical integrity management systems for clients
  • Represent Cognascents as a technical authority with clients and, where appropriate, in industry forums and standards work
  • Champion AI-accelerated engineering workflows while holding every deliverable to the firm's senior sign-off standard
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; advanced degree a plus
  • Approximately 5 years of asset integrity, mechanical integrity, or reliability engineering experience across upstream, midstream, refining, petrochemicals, or LNG operations
  • Demonstrated project delivery ownership in a client-facing or consulting setting — scope, schedule, budget, and quality
  • Deep command of applicable API, ASME, and related inspection and pressure-equipment codes (510, 570, 653, 580, 581, 579)
  • Track record developing engineers and leading technical teams
  • Strong client-facing leadership and clear communication across both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progress toward one
  • Certification as an API 510 and/or API 570 Inspector
  • API 580 Risk-Based Inspection certification
  • Familiarity with AI-accelerated engineering workflows and a willingness to work within them
