The Asset Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting, control, and financial reporting of the Company's fixed asset portfolio. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of asset records across the full asset lifecycle—from procurement and capitalization through depreciation, transfers, and disposal. In addition, the Asset Controller partners closely with Supply Chain and Operations to support the planning, procurement, and tracking of capital assets, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards
Key Responsibilities:
Fixed Asset Accounting & Control
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger, ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, transfers, impairments, and disposals in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Establish and enforce capitalization thresholds, asset classification standards, and useful life assumptions.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations between the fixed asset subledger and the general ledger.
- Prepare fixed asset schedules and supporting documentation for financial reporting, audits, and tax reporting.
- Coordinate and lead periodic physical asset inventories.
- Monitor construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts and ensure timely capitalization.
Asset Procurement & Supply Chain Collaboration
- Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to support the procurement of capital assets.
- Review capital purchase requests for financial justification and compliance.
- Ensure accurate asset setup, tagging, and system entry.
- Support supplier negotiations and contract reviews.
- Align procurement data with accounting records.
Reporting, Analysis & Compliance
- Prepare asset reporting, roll-forwards, and depreciation forecasts.
- Support capital planning and budgeting.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Identify process improvement opportunities.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Serve as subject matter expert for fixed asset systems.
- Support ERP implementations and enhancements.
- Develop procedures and training materials.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of fixed asset accounting experience.
- Strong GAAP knowledge.
- ERP and Excel proficiency.
Preferred
- CPA.
- Asset-intensive industry experience.
