ASSESSMENTS ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR - Class B

Position Overview

This is a Position Specific Recruitment for the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, Real Property Division, Charles County Assessments Office. The resulting eligible list will be used solely for this position. Interested applicants must reapply for future recruitments in this classification.

Note: Recruitment is limited to current employees of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation.

Main Responsibilities

Assist the Supervisor of Assessments with the office's work program, including residential and commercial assessments, and coordinate clerical and assessor functions to ensure timely and professional completion of the triennial assessment program.

Key Duties
  • Manage local assessments office operations in collaboration with the Supervisor.
  • Develop and implement office policies and procedures.
  • Maintain property assessment records and prepare valuation reports.
  • Plan and execute property assessment and reassessment programs.
  • Coordinate with local officials and departments.
  • Engage in public outreach to inform property owners about assessment activities.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding assessment methods, appeals, and CAMA functions.
  • Serve as acting Supervisor in their absence.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and completion of IAAO Courses 101, 102, and 300 or equivalent.
  • Experience: Six years of professional appraisal experience estimating real property values following USPAP standards.
Additional Notes
  • Substitutions: Additional appraisal experience or military service in relevant roles may substitute for education or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience valuing commercial and industrial properties.
  • Knowledge of Maryland property tax laws and IAAO standards.
Special Requirements
  • Must have a valid Maryland driver’s license.
  • May require daily use of a state vehicle and putting certain licenses into inactive status upon appointment.
  • Participation in outside activities that pose conflicts of interest is prohibited.
Selection Process

Applicants must provide complete information demonstrating they meet the qualifications. Selected candidates will be ranked and eligible for at least one year.

Examination Process

The assessment may include a review of education, training, and experience related to the position.
