Job summary

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, operated with Lifepoint Health, seeks an Assessment Specialist RN to join our team on the full-time mid shift (11:00 am–11:30 pm). You will contribute to high-quality patient assessment, admission planning, and coordinated care for psychiatric, chemical dependency, geriatric patients.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
• Current clinical RN license valid in state of FL.
• Experience in a psychiatric health care facility with direct experience in chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric care helpful; experience in patient assessments, treatment planning and communication with external review bodies.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates service requests: initial response, assessment, referral, designation of level of care, admission, and follow-up.
• Performs initial evaluation, initiates assessment, documents symptoms and needs, informs MD for LOC.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers.
• Maintains knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and EMTALA.
• Maintains preadmission/admission paperwork and completes pre-certification with insurance.
• Monitors patient condition and notifies physician as needed; follows med administration policy.
• Interacts with patients with empathy, dignity and respect; conducts comprehensive nursing assessments.

How you'll contribute

An Assessment Specialist (RN) who excels in this role:

• Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.


• Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.


• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.


• Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.


• Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.


• Will monitor patient for change of condition and respond accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.


• RN will follow hospital policy for medication administration.


• RN will consistently use empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients.


• Assists/performs comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients.

What we're looking for

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing Required


• License: Current clinical RN license valid in state of FL


• Experience: Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred. Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities


• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact. Must be at least 21 years of age. Maybe required to work flexible hours and overtime.
