Job summary

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital in Tampa, FL is seeking an Assessment Specialist on a PRN schedule. You will manage initial assessments, admissions processes, and care coordination for patients in a psychiatric health setting, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication with the medical team.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Nursing or Master's in Social Work/Counseling required.
• Current clinical, social work, or RN license as required by state regulations.
• Experience in a psychiatric health care facility with exposure to chemical dependency/dual diagnosis preferred.
• CPR certification and CPI within 30 days of employment and prior to patient contact.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates response to a request for services, including initial response, assessment, referral, designation of level of care, admission into services, and follow-up.
• Conducts initial evaluation, initiates assessment, documents patient symptoms, functioning and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service to patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
• Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
• Monitors patient for change of condition and notifies physician as needed.

How you’ll contribute

An Assessment Specialist who excels in this role:

• Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.
• Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
• Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
• Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
• Will monitor patient for change of condition and respond accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.

What we’re looking for

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing Required or Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling required.
• License: Current clinical, social work, or RN license as required by state regulations.
• Experience: Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred. Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities
• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact. Must be at least 21 years of age. Maybe required to work flexible hours and overtime.
