Job Description
Position Summary
The Assessment & Data Manager manages the daily implementation of district assessment operations and academic data processes. This position ensures that assessments are well organized, results are accurate and accessible, and campus teams receive timely support to use assessment systems effectively.
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Accountability, Assessment, and Academic Systems, the manager coordinates assessment calendars, testing logistics, campus training, data validation, and recurring reports. The manager works closely with the Data Coordinator, Teaching and Learning, Technology, Student Support Services, and campus assessment coordinators to maintain reliable systems that support instructional decisions and accountability reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment Operations
- Manage the implementation of the district assessment calendar, including screening, diagnostic, common, interim, and state assessments.
- Coordinate district administration of STAAR, end-of-course assessments, TELPAS, and other assigned assessments.
- Develop testing schedules, readiness checklists, procedures, and communication timelines.
- Train and support campus assessment coordinators and other designated staff.
- Coordinate student registration, testing rosters, materials, online testing setup, and administration logistics.
- Work with Technology to verify device readiness, system access, and technical support before testing.
- Collaborate with Special Education, Multilingual Programs, Section 504, and campus teams to ensure approved assessment accommodations and participation decisions are accurately reflected in testing systems.
- Monitor testing completion, participation, make-up testing, and outstanding campus tasks.
- Maintain required assessment documentation and coordinate the reporting and follow-up of testing concerns or irregularities.
- Maintain secure processes for assessment materials and confidential student information.
Assessment Platforms and Data Quality
- Administer assigned assessment platforms, including user access, student rosters, testing windows, and reporting permissions.
- Coordinate data imports, exports, and roster updates with the Data Coordinator and Technology.
- Validate student identifiers, campus assignments, grade levels, course enrollment, and other fields needed for accurate assessment reporting.
- Reconcile discrepancies among assessment platforms, student information systems, and district reports.
- Maintain procedures for identifying, documenting, assigning, and resolving data errors.
- Verify assessment completion and data accuracy before releasing district reports.
- Maintain organized records of assessment files, reporting specifications, and recurring data processes.
Analysis and Reporting
- Prepare recurring assessment reports for district leaders, campus administrators, and instructional teams.
- Disaggregate results by campus, grade level, content area, student group, and assessed standard, as appropriate.
- Compile performance trends that help leaders identify strengths, unfinished learning, and students needing additional support.
- Support the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, campus scorecards, and other reporting tools.
- Prepare validated data files and supporting analyses for accountability projections under the Senior Director’s direction.
- Support executive and board reporting by verifying source data, calculations, labels, and reporting periods.
- Establish predictable timelines for releasing results and communicate delays or data limitations promptly.
- Provide clear explanations of report definitions, assessment measures, and appropriate uses of results.
Campus Support and Training
- Serve as a primary contact for campus questions about assessment administration, platforms, and reporting.
- Develop practical guidance documents, training materials, and troubleshooting resources.
- Train campus leaders and designated staff to locate, interpret, and use assessment reports.
- Coordinate with Teaching and Learning to ensure assessment results are available for scheduled data meetings and instructional planning.
- Maintain a process for tracking support requests, resolving recurring issues, and escalating concerns.
- Gather campus feedback and recommend improvements to assessment procedures and reporting tools.
Academic Systems Support
- Support academic data validation in Skyward and related systems as assigned by the Senior Director.
- Coordinate checks of enrollment, course, and roster information that affect assessment assignments and reporting.
- Assist with master schedule data reviews and identify discrepancies affecting assessment participation or academic reports.
- Support validation of graduation, course completion, and college, career, and military readiness data in collaboration with designated program owners.
- Document system issues and coordinate resolution with Technology, campus staff, and relevant data owners.
Project Management and Collaboration
- Translate district assessment priorities into clear work plans, deadlines, and campus deliverables.
- Coordinate assessment and reporting workflows with the Data Coordinator.
- Monitor progress, communicate risks, and escalating issues that could affect testing or reporting deadlines.
- Maintain assigned vendor contacts, service requests, and platform support records.
- Recommend improvements that reduce manual work, strengthen data accuracy, and simplify campus procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Accountability, Assessment, and Academic Systems.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in education, data analytics, information systems, or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience in education, assessment coordination, academic data management, or related work.
- Experience coordinating assessments or managing student performance data.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, data validation, and reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate work across teams.
- Strong written communication, training, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience handling confidential student information appropriately.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, assessment, analytics, or a related field.
- Experience serving as a campus or district testing coordinator.
- Experience with Texas state assessments and accountability data.
- Experience with Skyward, Power BI, and online assessment platforms.
- Experience building dashboards, reconciling data across systems, or improving reporting workflows.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of assessment administration, testing security, and data quality procedures.
- Ability to organize complex testing logistics and communicate clear expectations.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in district offices and campus settings and requires travel among district locations. Periodic evening work and extended hours may be necessary during assessment windows, reporting deadlines, and system transitions.
