Job summary

Ducommun, Inc. in Gardena, CA, a leading aerospace and industrial solutions provider, seeks an assembler to perform layout, fit, riveting, drilling, and other assembly duties under minimal supervision.

Work from blueprints and verbal instructions using jigs and tooling, ensuring quality and safety standards are met. Responsibilities include laying out components, fastening with rivets and bolts, operating drill presses and riveting machines, and contributing to continuous process improvements

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years mechanical and/or structural assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and blueprints.
  • Must be able to comply with specific safety policies.
  • Understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out and locates necessary reference lines for structural components or assemblies in building the initial and subsequent production structures specified by design or modification changes.
  • Positions and lays up parts, using tooling jigs and fixtures, when available.
  • Fits, assembles, and shapes parts; determines proper tools (size and length), and performs such operations as drilling, reaming, countersinking, riveting, boring, filing, etc.
  • Positions parts according to work order and blueprint specifications.
  • Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners including sealant and adhesives.
  • Operates drill press, hot dimpler, or riveting machine to assist in assembly operation.
  • Removes small quantities of metal with hand files, blenders, and rollers to produce close fit between parts.
  • Continuously improve the assembly process and contribute to the teamwork necessary to continuously improve other processes.
  • Improvises shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation, as required.
  • May perform structural repair and rework on assemblies.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees.

Job description

Performs all operations necessary in the location, installation, assembly and integral mating of major structural sub-assemblies and assemblies, working from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions, under minimum supervision, and with or without specialized tooling and jigs.

Job Summary

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Has thorough knowledge of use of the above tools and of code numbers for different types of rivets, bolts, nuts, screws, etc.
  • Tools & Equipment:
    • Power tools: Drills, sanders, rivet guns, rivet squeezes, etc.
    • Hand tools: Squares, hammers, punches, pencil compass, chisels, wrenches, pliers, cutters, saw, screwdriver, scribe, scales, snips, dividers, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and blueprints.
  • Must be able to comply with specific safety policies.
  • Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  • Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.
  • Critical thinking skills and good decision-making thought processes
  • Ability to effectively communicate among all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, scales, tape measure, and apply decimals
  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies
  • Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions
Required Experience and Education
  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Three years mechanical and/or structural assembly experience.

Base Compensation: USD 18.00 - 27.00 Paid Hourly
