Job summary

Elk Mountain Lumber is hiring for a wood truss assembler at the Future Frame Megan Plant in New Caney, TX. The role involves assembling trusses and wall panels on an assembly line, following paper work and using hand tools, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

You will lift up to 50 pounds, learn lean practices, and may obtain CPR/AED and forklift certification. Prior experience is preferred but not required, and the environment is a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Assembles trusses or wall panels by positioning lumber and plates on the line as shown in truss paperwork.
• Sets press machine pins as directed by Production Manager.
• Hammers plates into lumber on the bottom of the truss.
• Releases assembled truss from hardware onto racks or stacks on the ground.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area and reports unsafe conditions to management.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by Floor Supervisor or Management.

JOB PURPOSE:

Assembles wood Roof Trusses, Wall Panels, or Floor trusses by performing one or more repetitive jobs on an assembly line or sub-assembly line to produce and assemble trusses/wall panels. This requires such processes as insertion of materials, clamping, fitting parts, and use of some hand tools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assembles trusses or wall panels, by positioning lumber and plates on the line, aligned within the hardware, and as seen on the truss paperwork.
• Sets press machine pins as directed by Production Manager.
• Hammers plates into lumber on the bottom of the truss.
• Releases assembled truss from hardware on to racks or stacks on the ground.
• Maintains working area free of miscellaneous equipment and debris. Sweeps work area at the end of the shift.
• Reports unsafe working conditions and practices to the Production Management team.
• Complies with all OSHA, employee conduct, and safety guidelines.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by Floor Supervisor or Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of associates and managers
• Ability to learn & apply Lean Practices, gain CPR/AED certification, as well as forklift certification
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Ability to perform assembly tasks as required and successfully work in a team environment
• Basic math and measurement skills needed
