Job Summary

A skilled mechanic/mechanical assembler to disassemble, assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair large electric motors for commercial HVAC chillers.

A mechanical assembler needs manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must also have knowledge of mechanics, proper use and care of both precision measurement tools and assembly tools, and respect for safety precautions and rules.

A qualified Assembler III must have prior experience with large electric motor assembly, or similar equipment of equivalent complexity, and experience in an industrial production environment performing mechanical assembly, quality checks, testing, and troubleshooting.

The goal is to ensure effective production operations that are safe, efficient, produce high-quality products, and optimize procedures.

This role has been designated by the Company as Safety Sensitive.

Responsibilities Include
  • Following all applicable environmental, health, and safety (EHS) rules.
  • Supporting safety programs (e.g., BBS).
  • Being punctual and reliable by observing work rules.
  • Reading mechanical drawings, production documents, work instructions, and quality documentation to understand specifications.
  • Following proper sequence of events/actions for each job.
  • Taking measurements and recording key operations during assembly and testing.
  • Using and maintaining tools and equipment correctly.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Checking output for consistency and defects.
  • Keeping records of units and products.
  • Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Identifying and communicating maintenance needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience as a mechanical assembler or mechanic building large electric motors, especially for HVAC chillers.
  • Experience with manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and mechanical systems.
  • Proper use and care of precision tools and measurement instruments.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and documentation.
  • Good math skills and analytical abilities.
  • Physical stamina and strength.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles is an asset.
