Job summary

Boston Whaler in Edgewater, FL is seeking an Assembly Technician to join the skilled team. You will assemble, fit, and install boat components using hand and power tools, following drawings and work orders to ensure precise, safe production of marine vessels.

You will interpret blueprints, maintain quality through inspections, and collaborate with technicians, engineers, and designers to meet production schedules while upholding safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year related experience or training.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read, hear, and interpret verbal/written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to assemble boats.

  • Ensure proper alignment using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Perform quality checks to identify defects and deviations from specifications.

  • Collaborate with assemblers, technicians, engineers, and designers to coordinate tasks.

Position Overview

As part of the talented Assembly team, you will be a skilled and detail‑oriented professional responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing components to construct boats, watercraft, or marine vessels. You must understand mechanical processes, use hand and power tools, and follow technical instructions accurately to ensure safe and efficient operation of the finished product.

Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to assemble boats.
  • Assemble various boat components – hulls, decks, cabins, bulkheads, and other structural elements.
  • Ensure proper alignment and fitting of components using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform quality checks throughout the assembly process to identify defects, inaccuracies, or deviations from specifications.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, report safety concerns or incidents immediately.
  • Work closely with other assemblers, technicians, engineers, and designers to coordinate tasks and support training for colleagues.
  • Maintain and care for assembly tools, equipment, and machinery; report malfunctions or repair needs.
  • Complete assigned tasks within specified time frames to meet production schedules and deadlines.
Continuous Improvement
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting ideas for increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing overall boat assembly.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during the assembly process, implementing appropriate solutions to maintain production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, inspections, and modifications made during production.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ year of related experience, training, or a combination thereof.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read, hear, and interpret verbal or written instructions and exchange accurate information with others.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.

  • Physical dexterity to perform tasks involving bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic reading comprehension and writing skills; able to work from verbal and written instructions and complete routine paperwork.
  • Highly focused and organized with high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with diverse teams.
  • High energy, creative thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. Familiarity with MRP software and systems is a plus.
  • Marine experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods.
Working Conditions
  • Shop floor working environment; non‑climate controlled.
  • Temperature fluctuations, high humidity in summer, moderate noise levels with occasional spikes.
  • Exposure to high temperatures, moving mechanical parts, resins, fiberglass dust, epoxy, composites, and chemicals.
  • Must wear safety glasses and other PPE on the production/shop floor.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Shifts
  • Typically a 4–10 hour work week.
  • Overtime may be required based on scheduling needs.
  • Hourly premium shift differential available for night shift.
  • Boston Whaler reserves the right to adjust shifts and work times as business needs evolve.
Compensation

The anticipated pay range is $17.56–$26.70 hourly. Base pay will vary based on experience, qualifications, and location.
