Job summary

Brunswick Corporation is seeking a skilled Boat Assembler at the Boston Whaler facility in Edgewater, FL. You will assemble boats and components, read technical drawings, and ensure precise fitting using hand and power tools while maintaining safety standards.

You will collaborate with engineers and technicians to meet production goals, perform quality inspections, and contribute to process improvements in a non-climate controlled shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to assemble boats.
  • Assemble hulls, decks, cabins, bulkheads, and other components.
  • Ensure proper alignment using hand tools and measuring instruments to tight tolerances.
  • Perform quality checks and address defects; follow safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with teammates to coordinate tasks and maintain workflow.
  • Maintain and care for tools and equipment; keep workspace clean.
  • Complete tasks within production schedules and contribute to process improvements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues to keep production on schedule.

Position Overview

As part of the talented Assembly team, you will be a skilled and detail‑oriented professional responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing various components to construct boats, watercraft, or marine vessels. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical processes, hand tools, and the ability to follow technical instructions accurately. Boat assemblers play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the finished product.

Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to assemble boats.
  • Assemble various boat components, including hulls, decks, cabins, bulkheads, and other structural elements.
  • Ensure proper alignment and fitting of components using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments to achieve precise tolerances.
  • Perform quality checks throughout the assembly process to identify defects, inaccuracies, or deviations from specifications, and address any issues promptly.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, report safety concerns or incidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Collaborate with other boat assemblers, technicians, engineers, and designers to coordinate tasks and ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Maintain and care for assembly tools, equipment, and machinery; report malfunctions or the need for repairs and keep the workspace clean.
  • Complete assigned tasks within specified timeframes to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting ideas to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance the overall boat assembly process.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues that may arise during assembly, implementing suitable solutions to maintain production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, inspections, and any modifications made during production.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or 1+ years of related experience and/or training.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read, hear, interpret, and understand instructions given verbally or in writing and exchange accurate information with others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proactive team player who is a self‑starter with constant attention to improvement.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and ability to adapt to unexpected challenges.
  • Detail‑oriented with a focus on precision and quality.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Physical dexterity allowing bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic reading comprehension and writing skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, work with computer terminals, and complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to remain extremely focused and organized with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with a variety of people.
  • Familiarity with material resource planning (MRP) software and systems.
  • Marine experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods.
Working Conditions
  • Shop floor working environment (non‑climate controlled).
  • Exposure to high temperatures, humid conditions, noise, resin, fiberglass dust, epoxy, composites, and other chemicals.
  • Required to wear safety glasses and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.
Shift Schedule
  • Typically, a 4–10 hour work day.
  • Overtime may be required based on scheduling needs; shift adjustments may occur.
  • An hourly premium shift differential is available for night shift work.
