Job summary

MERRICK is seeking an assembler to construct and test mechanical and electrical assemblies for Merrick Equipment. This role centers on accuracy, following blueprints, and ensuring assemblies meet specifications.

You will read blueprints, select proper tools, and perform assembly with hand and power tools, documenting work accurately. Safety and quality are paramount in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; related experience may substitute.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical background with attention to tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble final products or subassemblies under supervision.
  • Select tools and fixtures; complete assemblies within tolerances and time.
  • Read blueprints and wiring diagrams; install components and wiring as specified.
  • Inspect parts for defects and perform corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain safety and teamwork; follow company policies.

SUMMARY

Constructs and tests fabricated and purchased parts for mechanical and electrical assembly of Merrick Equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Strong mechanical and electrical background with ability to follow work instructions and document accurately.
  2. High attention to detail to produce quality equipment with no defects.
  3. High organizational and prioritizing skills to meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to read blueprints efficiently and accurately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides assistance to or works under the guidance of an Assembler II in assembling final products or subassemblies.
  • Select proper tools, fixtures, and equipment to properly assemble products.
  • Complete assemblies with the specified tolerances and within the specified time.
  • Uses hand and power tools for mechanical and electrical assembly.
  • Uses electrical/electronic equipment such as multimeters and soldering irons.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, process sheets, and assembly drawings.
  • Installs components and parts such as switches, coils, transformers, relays, transistors, and semiconductor circuits on chassis, circuit boards, panels, and other units.
  • Routes and attaches or solders wires and connectors to form circuitry and connects assembly to power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes.
  • Examines parts for defects and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Tests the unit to locate defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, and verify specified operation and calibrates units according to specifications.
  • Completes and scans work orders accurately for each job.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Functions in a workplace of dignity and respect for all.
  • Functions as a team member and to get along with others.

  • Reports for work on time as scheduled and ready to perform.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as directed, assigned or necessary to accomplish the department’s objective in an effective manner.
SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Accountable for all concerns within their scope of work and has the absolute responsibility to remedy, report and/or communicate any issue to managers, supervisors, safety or environmental managers as appropriate.
  • Follows all safe work practices, watches out for fellow workers, and keeps their work area clean.
  • Ensures area remains compliant regarding hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and universal waste.
  • Must be able to obtain certification and safely operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, and aerial lifts.
  • The following personal protection equipment is required and must be worn while working in the manufacturing facility or customers’ facilities:
  1. Company approved safety glasses or goggles.
  2. Company approved steel/composite toe shoes.
  3. Appropriate hand protection, respiratory and hearing protection in designated areas.
  4. Appropriate clothing and other safety equipment as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or six months related experience and/or training.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and basic blueprint reading. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE SKILLS: Visual Scanning System
  • EQUIPMENT: Cranes, forklifts, various testing equipment and power and hand tools
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required.
