Job summary

IDEX is seeking a skilled valve assembler in Geismar, LA to assemble and test valves and related systems. You will read engineering drawings, prep surfaces, and perform basic quality checks to meet product specifications.

The role requires mechanical aptitude, the ability to use hand and power tools, and comfort working in paint booths, with PPE as needed. Prior assembly or painting experience is beneficial. This on-site position includes potential heavy lifting and equipment operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
  • Reading and writing in English.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test valves according to engineering instructions and technical manuals.
  • Assemble or disassemble complex mechanical systems; position, align, and fasten units to assemblies using hand and power tools.
  • Operate cranes, hoists, or other lifting equipment to transport or position large parts.
  • Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and drawings to determine components and assembly methods.

Job Summary:

Assembles mechanical valves, fabricated parts/components to make assemblies, sub-assemblies or complete units using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures, and miscellaneous equipment. Fits, aligns, calibrates, and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements; repairs units or products that have failed to meet quality, technical, or customer requirements or specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. 1. Assemble and test valves according to engineering instructions and technical manuals.
  2. 2. Assemble or disassemble complex mechanical systems. Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools.
  3. 3. Operate cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment to transport or position large parts.
  4. 4. Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment.
  5. 5. Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment. Record information including test results, material usage, and identification numbers.
  6. 6. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, technical orders or procedures to determine component parts and methods and sequences of valve assembly. Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, or drawings.
  7. 7. Maintain clean working environment/housekeeping.
  8. 8. Ability to perform light automation for various style valves.
  9. 9. Understand inventory management system and correctly issue components.
  10. 10 . Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings using spray guns
  11. 11. Clean, sandblast, or otherwise prepare valve surfaces for painting or coatings.
  12. 12. Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
  13. 13. Perform touch-ups or rework as necessary to meet specifications
  14. 14. Inspect surfaces and completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Reading and writing in English.
Preferred:
  • Assembly Experience
  • Industrial or Automotive Painting experience
  • Forklift operation
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Comfortable working in paint booths
  • Ability to wear PPE such as respirators and protective clothing
