Job summary

Vapor Stone Rail Systems, part of Wabtec Corp, in Plattsburgh, NY, seeks an electro-mechanical assembler. You will assemble components per drawings and specs, read electrical schematics, and ensure quality while following safety rules and ISO standards.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in manufacturing/assembly, strong tool skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team. This is a full-time on-site role with benefits and potential bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electro-mechanical production assembly according to engineering drawings, product specifications and quality standards.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the team at Vapor Stone Rail Systems, you will be responsible for performing electro-mechanical production assembly work according to engineering drawings, product specifications and quality standards. Assembler is responsible for his/her own quality of work and must meet company and ISO standards.

  • Must be safety conscious.
  • Must be able to read assembly drawings.
  • Must have mechanical skills.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of the use of hand tools.
  • Must be self-motivated with ability to work independently with no guidance.
  • Must be able to follow written work instructions/procedures.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must be able to acquire materials for specific tasks.
  • Willingness to adapt to change.
  • Must be able to complete task on time.
  • Must be able to collaborate within a team and cross functionally.
  • Must be able to interpret quality requirements.
  • Must have basic understanding of electrical test equipment (megger, hi-pot, multi-meter, etc...).
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to train new employees in accordance with work standards/instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft office suite & basic computer functions.

Required Experience And Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have knowledge of mechanical/ electrical assembly techniques. You should also have basic computer skills including Microsoft office.

Education
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant manufacturing and/or assembly experience preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to read pneumatic diagrams.
  • Ability to crimp, perform soldering procedures, assemble wire harnesses, etc.
What will your typical day look like?
  • Working with team or self in our assembly areas. This could include line work or assembly work in a group setting.
What about the physical demands of the job?
  • Standing, bending, twisting for 8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.
  • Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.
  • Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.
  • Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.
  • May require step stools or ladders.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Additional Information

The salary rate for this role is currently $20-25. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
