Job summary

Paradise Valley Unified School District North Canyon High School in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the 2026-27 season. The position is a 1.0 FTE role with a temporary addendum and a starting date of November 2, 2026.

The role focuses on design and implementation of program activities, supervision of student athletes, and teaching fundamentals, with responsibilities including compliance, discipline, and safety. Training and background clearances are required.

Qualifications

• SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
• KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios;review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Responsibilities

• Assesses student athletes for the purpose of providing feedback to students on their individual performance and/or determining team placement.
• Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. for the purpose of receiving and conveying information related to their role.
• Communicates with parents, students, officials, administrators and community for the purpose of providing information, assistance and/or direction.
• Instructs student athletes for the purpose of promoting individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Maintains records for the purpose of complying with district, athletic conference, and state requirements.
• Monitors student athletes' academic eligibility for the purpose of complying with requirements and providing intervention when needed.
• Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies, and playing tactics for the purpose of preparing the team and individual athletes for competition.
