Job summary

Chess Wizards, Inc. is seeking enthusiastic Assistant Instructors to support our after-school chess enrichment in Ambler, PA.

You will assist a lead instructor with a class of 15–22 elementary students, guiding them through piece movements and basic strategies while keeping sessions engaging and safe. You’ll gain hands-on teaching experience, follow a structured curriculum, and have opportunities for advancement to Chess Instructor.

Qualifications

• Genuine interest in working with groups of elementary students.
• Experience in teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or similar is a plus.
• Ability to follow directions and support the instructor's classroom management.
• Professional, positive, kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain moves and basic tactics to kids.
• Reliable transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes weekly.
• Commitment to safety protocols and school policies to protect students.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chess Instructor in setting up and running a 15–22 student class.
• Provide one-on-one or small-group practice for piece movement and basic concepts.
• Support activities, keep students engaged, reinforce positive behavior.
• Follow the curriculum and promote good sportsmanship with the instructor.
• Maintain a lively, confident, and positive classroom environment.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking in students.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrivals, dismissals, and activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to engage students.
