Job summary

Knife River MT in Montana is seeking a paving laborer to support laydown operations and equipment handling in varied conditions. The role requires physical work and collaboration with the supervision and testing teams to ensure quality results.

Candidates should be prepared for weather exposure and variable shifts, and to assist multiple paving-related machines as needed. CDL is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Willing to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
• Pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Physically active (standing, kneeling, climbing, lifting).

Responsibilities

• Perform daily equipment inspections.
• Work safely and prevent unsafe actions or behaviors.
• Control material flow and mat smoothness during paving.
• Communicate with supervisor/testing technician about laydown issues.
• Assist operating other paving equipment as needed (rollers, brooms, loaders).
• Be available for days, nights and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform daily equipment inspections
• Perform work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions or behaviors
• Control material taken into paver and the depth of material being distributed through the paver and smoothness of mat
• Ability to communicate with supervisor and testing technician if there are issues with laydown operations
• Position is expected to assist in operating other pieces of paving equipment including asphalt rollers, power brooms, skid steer loaders, and loaders as needed
• Must be willing to work flexible shifts that include days, nights, and weekends as needed
• Must be willing to do physical labor
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions
• Valid driver's license but a CDL is preferred
• Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check
• Job requires steady to intermittent physical activity including standing, stooping kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven ground, shoveling, and raking
