Job description

Position Overview

The person in this role will provide plant and field testing services through truck sampling, AC content, mix gradation, volumetric testing, core sampling and other duties as required for hot-mix Asphalt.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  1. Abide by all Harrison Safety Requirements.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with Road Crew, DOT, and Engineering Firm Personnel.
  3. Assist in establishing Rolling Patterns on Road Projects to achieve specified Hot Mix Density.
  4. Use Core Drilling Machine in an acceptable manner to collect required Field Density Core Samples.
  5. Evaluate results from test data and suggest changes as necessary to keep the process under control and within specification limits.
  6. Prepare and record accurate information.
  7. Maintain all testing equipment in a satisfactory manner, keeping track of any required documentation for the equipment.
  8. Transport all equipment safely to and from the jobsite.
  9. Follow Quality Control Plans and guidelines as assigned.
  10. Obtain and maintain required certifications and licenses.
  11. Willingness to travel to Harrison jobsites as needed. Overnight stays will occasionally be required. Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  12. Willingness to work as a team to complete projects.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred, with the ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions in English.
  • Previous related experience in the construction field is preferred.

Work Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Have a current Driver license with good driving record.
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Physical ability to work in hot, dusty locations.
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures.
  • The following motions will be required: stretching, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, throwing, walking, hammering, standing, reaching, rubbing surfaces; squatting may occupy most of the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for repetitious lifting while using proper lifting techniques.
  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
