Job summary

Scotty's Contracting and Stone is hiring an Asphalt Plant Quality Technician to support daily QC testing of asphalt mixes and aggregates in Bowling Green, KY. You will ensure compliance with KYTC, ASTM, and AASHTO standards and communicate results to crews.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, strong math and teamwork skills, and the ability to work flexible hours. A valid driver’s license is required, and the KYTC Superpave Certification must be obtained within the first year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Familiar with standard Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong math and problem-solving abilities essential.
• Able to work in a team and communicate effectively.
• Must obtain KYTC Superpave Plant Technologist Certification in first year.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily sampling and testing of asphalt mixes and aggregates per KYTC, ASTM, and AASHTO.
• Conduct gradation analyses, asphalt content, and other QC tests.
• Maintain control charts and keep testing records updated.
• Communicate results and issues promptly to plant operators and supervisors.
• Support improvements to product quality and process efficiency.

Description:

• Perform daily sampling and testing of asphalt mixes and aggregates in accordance with KYTC, ASTM, and AASHTO standards.
• Conduct gradation analysis, asphalt content, volumetric calculations, and other required quality control tests.
• Maintain control charts and other records required.
• Monitor production and certify test results for use in contract procurement or completion of job quality requirements.
• Communicate test results and quality issues promptly to plant operators and supervisors.
• Work with plant and paving crews to resolve mix design or quality issues in the field.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
• Inspect stockpiles, material sources, and truckloads at plant sites.
• Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in and around the lab. Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications. Inspect, calibrate, and maintain testing equipment periodically.
• This position will be based in Bowling Green and the surrounding areas.

Qualifications:

• At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• General computer skills are essential, including familiarity with standard Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) products.
• Strong math and problem-solving skills.
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong personal organization and multi-tasking skills are also beneficial, as is the ability to handle normal workloads with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, nights, and weekends as required during paving season.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must obtain KYTC Superpave Plant Technologist Certification within first year of employment.

Physical Requirements:

• Work Environment: Able to work both indoors & outdoors, with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
• Proximity Hazards: Must be alert and able to work safely near heavy mobile equipment.
• Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces.
• Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
• Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
• Heavy lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
