Job summary

Martin Marietta in Santa Margarita, CA seeks a Plant Operator to ensure safe, efficient production of Hot Mix Asphalt and Warm Mix Asphalt. You will manage a computerized plant control system and coordinate with QC and dispatch to complete orders accurately.

The role requires advanced troubleshooting, routine preventative maintenance, and strict adherence to OSHA/EPA specs to maintain a zero-injury culture and high uptime.

Qualifications

• Must have 1+ years of experience in Asphalt Plant Operations or a Heavy Industrial Manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating automated plant control systems and performing maintenance.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and mechanical malfunctions.

Responsibilities

• Operate automated plant control systems to monitor and adjust material flow, temperatures, and mixing times.
• Oversee blending of aggregates and asphalt cement per QC-provided mix designs.
• Load asphalt into haul trucks ensuring correct weights and safe yard traffic flow.
• Monitor stockpiles of liquid AC, fuel, and aggregate; coordinate with Loader Operator to keep plant fed.
• Perform maintenance on conveyors, baghouses, drum dryers, screens, and elevators; replace bearings and repair liners.
• Weld and cut as needed for structural repairs and equipment modifications.
• Identify and troubleshoot malfunctions to minimize downtime during peak production hours.
• Maintain clean facilities and document pre/post-shift inspections.
• Ensure OSHA, EPA dust control, emissions, and LOTO compliance.
• Maintain production and maintenance logs via company software.
• Assist in training Laborers on plant systems.
• Coordinate between plant, QC lab, and dispatch to fulfill orders accurately.
