The Asphalt Plant Operator position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt plant. The plant operator will operate, maintain, and repair the asphalt plant equipment used in hot mix asphalt production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows all company safety and environmental policies and OSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and SDDANR.
- Communicate effectively with all team members.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
- Directly operates plant controls to properly manufacture hot mix, warm mix, and/or cold mix asphalt to mix design specifications.
- Monitor equipment operation to ensure a consistent flow of materials and produce high-quality, in-spec hot mix asphalt for internal and external customers.
- Load out trucks in a timely fashion. Make sure the silo has the proper material for loadout.
- Feed aggregate material into asphalt plant.
- Check the levels of all storage tanks at the start of each shift and ensure that we have enough product to produce the required mix.
- Monitor aggregate gradations and moisture content to ensure consistency of material.
- Able to perform general labor duties (shovel, clean, grease, repair, load/unload AC).
- Be able to safely use or operate hand and power tools.
- Ability and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment as designed (skidsteer, aerial lift, loader).
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify plant equipment.
- Responsible for housekeeping, including the plant, equipment, and plant site.
- Perform preventative maintenance, maintenance and repairs on plant equipment.
- Submit appropriate paperwork and reports as required.
- All other duties assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Knowledge of asphalt plants required.
- Good work attendance is a must.
- Ability to work safely in a team environment.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Relevant technical school education is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, squat, bend, walk for long durations.
- Able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
