Job summary

Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator to join our Plant team. You will operate computerized controls, monitor production, and ensure accurate weighing and delivery of aggregates and asphalt cement.

The role emphasizes safety, quality, maintenance, and coordination with foreman and drivers. Night/weekend shifts may be required to meet production schedules.

Qualifications

• One to three years of experience in asphalt plant operations.
• Experience operating computerized asphalt plant controls in either drum or batch plant environments.
• Working knowledge of asphalt manufacturing processes, plant equipment, and quality control procedures.
• Ability to use basic math, charts, and production data to adjust operations.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating asphalt plant controls and monitoring production to ensure the accurate weighing and delivery of specified quantities of aggregates and asphalt cement to produce asphalt mix designs. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient plant operations while meeting production schedules and quality standards.

Job Duties

• Operate computerized controls for both drum and batch asphalt plants.
• Monitor and control plant operations to produce asphalt mixtures according to established mix designs and specifications.
• Operate the plant in a safe manner to ensure the safety of personnel working at the plant and those delivering or receiving materials.
• Continuously monitor the operation and function of the asphalt plant throughout the workday and report any operational issues or concerns to the Plant Foreman.
• Assist with total plant maintenance, routine servicing, and troubleshooting of equipment as needed.
• Assist the Plant Foreman with ordering liquid asphalt, aggregates, fuel, and other materials, supplies, or parts required for plant operations.
• Assist the Plant Foreman with coordinating trucks to deliver materials and supplies to ensure efficient operations and production schedules are maintained.
• Assist the Plant Foreman with maintaining production records, inventory records, material usage reports, and other required documentation.
• Perform a variety of duties around the plant as needed, including attending cold feed systems, operating loaders or dozers at bins and stockpiles, and general facility cleanup.
• Maintain the plant office and surrounding work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Be available to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts as necessary to support production schedules, projects, and emergency repairs.
• Follow all safety rules and company policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Maintain professional conduct at all times.
• Complete all assigned Learning Management System initiatives.

Experience & Knowledge

• One to three years of experience in asphalt plant operations, including exposure to mix design, production processes, and plant maintenance.
• Experience operating computerized asphalt plant controls in either drum or batch plant environments.
• Working knowledge of asphalt manufacturing processes, plant equipment, and quality control procedures
• Ability to use simple math, formulas, charts, tables, specifications, schedules, diagrams, measuring instruments, computers, and plant operating software.
• Ability to interpret reports, forms, records, and production data and make operational adjustments as required.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address operational issues efficiently.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, maintenance personnel, and plant staff.

Physical Activity & Demand

• Position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and move throughout the plant environment for extended periods.
• Ability to operate computers, controls, switches, and instrumentation associated with asphalt plant operations.
• Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications and perceive sounds that may indicate operational or mechanical issues.
• Ability to perform inspections, routine maintenance activities, and housekeeping duties throughout the facility.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors and be exposed to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, heat, vibration, and moving mechanical equipment.
