Job summary

Coast Pavement Services is seeking paving/asphalt laborers in Oregon. The role involves physical labor, raking, shoveling, lining out the road, and assisting the crew with asphalt placement and finishing according to plan specifications.

You will work with a paving crew to ensure the asphalt mat has proper consistency and final finish, under the supervision of the foreman. A valid driver’s license is preferred, and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in paving or construction is preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation.
• Spanish proficiency is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Use tools safely and efficiently, such as shovel, rake, and other small tools.
• Assist in placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
• Must partner with other crew members to apply asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks as instructed by crew foreman to meet daily schedules.
• Smooths and adjusts surface irregularities, restores surface finish, spreads asphalt to proper grade and finishes before compaction.
• Work as part of the paving crew primarily raking asphalt, shoveling excess asphalt and sweeping up debris
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Paving/asphalt Laborers are responsible for performing tasks involving physical labor including raking, sweeping, and lining out the road, as well as working alongside the tractor, mill, paver, and screed. Shovelers assist the whole crew in ensuring the asphalt mat has the proper consistency, material and final result that the customer desires.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

• Use tools & equipment safely and efficiently, such as shovel, rake, and other small tools.
• Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
• Must partner with other crew members to apply asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks as instructed by crew foreman to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.

Additional Tasks Of Other Positions And Duties As Assigned.

• Responsible for the finished product while enforcing proper safety and traffic precautions.
• Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the specifications of the project.
• Smooths and adjusts surface irregularities, restores surface finish, spreads asphalt to proper grade and finishes before compaction.
• Use shovels and lutes to distribute asphalt mixtures over lot surfaces.
• Match and finish freshly made asphalt paving joints evenly.
• Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to lot surface.
• Work as part of the paving crew primarily raking asphalt, shoveling excess asphalt and sweeping up debris
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting. Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes, for extended hours of time. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to vehicular traffic. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Attendance is required according to company attendance policy to ensure the crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level.
• Participates and cooperates in all Company scheduled training, briefings, and meetings.
• Provides a positive professional attitude when dealing with co-workers, customers, and the public.
• Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work may be required.
• Abide by Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as well as local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
• Applicants applying for driving positions must be a minimum of 25 years of age to meet insurance underwriting requirements for insurability.

Preferred Background

• Specific job-related experience preferred, however not required.
• A valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation.
• Spanish proficiency a plus but NOT a requirement.

Preplacement Requirements

All Potential Candidates must be willing to submit to the company required background check(s) as applicable and preplacement drug analysis to be considered for hire.
