Job summary

Sanders Brothers Construction seeks an experienced Milling Operator to support asphalt construction projects in the Charleston, SC area. You will operate milling machines (milling machine or cold planer) to mill asphalt and concrete to project specs and coordinate with site crews.

The role may require night and weekend shifts, a valid driver's license, and willingness to pass pre-employment drug testing and background checks. Safety compliance and proper equipment maintenance are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with construction crews with measurable production goals.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
• May be required to obtain DOT medical certification based on needs of position.
• Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
• Must meet SBCC's employment standards with regards to background checks.
• The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lift up to 25 pounds.
• Flexible availability to include overtime, possible weekends and nights.
• Work environments may include rain, extreme temperatures and loud noises.

Job description

Asphalt Milling Operator - MO1026

Sanders Brothers Construction is currently seeking A Milling Operator to support Sanders Brothers milling and asphalt construction projects within the Charleston, SC area. The Milling Operator may be required to work nights and weekends.

Role and Responsibilities

• Responsible for control and operation of one or more types of milling equipment.
• Operates milling equipment (Milling Machine or Cold Planer) to properly mill asphalt/concrete to desired specifications based on usage
• Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of milling machine that mills asphalt and concrete on roadways and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc.
• May perform other related duties, such as preventive maintenance on all milling machinery.
• The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
• Keep company vehicle, tools and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns.
• Comply with all SBCC policies, procedures and safety requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Experience working with construction crews with measurable production goals.

• May be required to obtain DOT medical certification based on needs of position.

• The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Flexible availability to include overtime, possible weekends and nights.
• Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.

Preferred Requirements

• 1+ years of milling equipment operation and related asphalt & road construction experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
• Understanding of cold planning classes.

Candidates are encouraged but not required to provide a 3-year MVR at the time of application.

All candidates must pass background prescreen and pre-employment drug test.
