Job summary

Byrne & Jones Construction in Columbus, OH is seeking an experienced Asphalt Laborer & Asphalt Operator to join our paving team. You will support the crew by distributing and leveling asphalt, operating compaction equipment, and keeping safety protocols.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in asphalt paving, a valid driver's license, and a willingness to work weekends. We offer a sign-on bonus, 401(k) with match, and comprehensive health coverage.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in asphalt paving operations.
• Experience operating asphalt compaction equipment and heavy equipment preferred.
• Ideal candidates will have 5 or more years of experience operating asphalt compaction and heavy equipment.
• Strong understanding of safe equipment operation and asphalt paving practices.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends and unexpectedly longer hours when necessary.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist crew members in the completion of work as required.
• Assist with the distribution and leveling of asphalt during paving operations.
• Distribute hot-mix asphalt onto prepared surfaces using lutes, shovels, and other hand tools.
• Operate various pieces of compaction equipment during the breakdown and/or finish rolling processes of asphalt paving.
• Perform general maintenance, inspections, and basic care of assigned equipment.
• Help ensure proper asphalt distribution, leveling, compaction, and overall quality throughout paving operations.
• Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, customers, and the public.
• Follow all company safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
• Perform other duties as needed to support the paving crew and complete projects successfully.
