Job summary

Durwood Greene is seeking a Common Laborer to join the paving crew. The role involves general asphalt labor, coordinating with the foreman and superintendent, and performing tasks from shoveling to handling small tools in diverse outdoor settings.

The ideal candidate should have basic experience or familiarity with asphalt work, be organized, positive, and able to work well with others. Overnight shifts and overtime may be required as part of Texas projects.

Qualifications

• Entry level role requiring basic labor duties and a positive, professional attitude.
• Working knowledge of asphalt production and safety requirements is preferred.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations is a plus.
• HS diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor tasks related to asphalt paving, patching or prep crews.
• Shovel, rake, and handle small tools as needed.
• Assist with equipment cleanup and may operate small power tools.
• Signal operators to coordinate movement of materials and equipment.
• Assist in placing, moving, and dismantling signs, barricades, and traffic control devices.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Position Overview

The Common Laborer position is an integral part of the paving crew working with the entire team, foreman, and superintendent to ensure paving jobs are completed to high standards. The ideal candidate is familiar with physical labor and is able to perform tasks related to asphalt work in numerous settings and environments.

Key Responsibilities

• General laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching or prep crews.
• Required ability to shovel, rake and handle other small tools.
• Equipment cleanup as needed.
• May be called upon to run small power tools.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
• Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
• Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

• 1 year (or under) experience
• Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
• Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
• Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Entry Level Position
• Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, a plus
• High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required

Working Conditions

• Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required.
• Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas.
• Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
• Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
• Proper PPE is required at all times.
